The Pitch: Consisting of members from across Europe, Archivist returns with the post-something-or-other follow-up to their 2015 self-titled debut.  The next chapter in their sci-fi conceptual series.

What I Like: As always, the music this band creates is absolutely stunning.  Compositions are above all else emotionally captivating, and while they sound nothing like Coheed, these kindred spirits share a link in their melancholic mood and space saga lyricism.  Much of the weight of the music is conveyed through the post-rock and post-black, effects-infused layering of guitars.  It's a veritable waterfall of melody that is complimented by always organic drumming and raw, post-hardcore deliveries from Alex and Anna (also of Anopheli fame).  Other members of the band also frequently step up for some powerful gang vocal moments.  Overall, I'd say this release is very much in line with the debut, though there are a few new tricks here and there in terms of synth soundscapes and somewhat experimental clean vocals.  There is a part on the closing track that oddly reminded me of Blue Man Group.

What I Don't Like: With this band having a little more material to delve into now, I do have a few critiques.  The main theme of these is over-consistency.  This album musically sounds very similar to the previous, and many of the songs sound alike as well.  This adds to the overall conceptual side of the album, but not always one of engagement.  I could go for a little more overt variation and maybe a few more aggressive moments to add some texture.

The Verdict: Another beautiful and tragic chapter in this journey through space.  I continue to look forward to future releases and hear how the story and sound evolve.
