Dark Tranquillity is one of my favorite metal bands. Like top 5. Even more impressive is that despite all of the music I listen to and the many years of maturation, they have held this special place for me since high school. While I was not thrilled by Constuct, I appreciated the band trying some new directions and they have promised that Atoma, due out later this year, will be even more experimental in nature. Much like Enslaved, these guys maintain a trademark sound but show no interest in just doing the same thing anymore; a good quality for a band that has been around for such a long time. The first single, "The Pitiless" is streaming below. While this track doesn't feel very "experimental," it rocks. From the moody synths to the renewed energy in the guitars and vocals, it recalls everything I loved about albums like Damage Done and Fiction. Enjoy.
